Inside Kosher Pitmaster Izzy Eidelman’s Cult-Following Barbecue

Brooklyn’s Izzy’s Smokehouse might be one of the only barbecue joints serving kosher meats, but it doesn’t stop chef and owner Sruli “Izzy” Eidelman from consistently garnering praise. Their pulled beef tacos, sandwiches and fries bring hungry meat-lovers from all over, and their brisket and smoked fried chicken sandwiches consistently sell out. With their famous smoked lamb ribs, dino ribs and more, it’s no wonder that Eidelman is consistently profiled by the popular food website Eater. “We happen to be kosher barbecue,” says Eidelman. “But we have plenty of people who come in who aren’t kosher and say, ‘this is one of the best barbecues I’ve ever had.’” Check out Eater’s video on Eidelman here.
