Amar’e Stoudemire’s Orthodox Jewish Journey is on HBO

Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, HBO’s flagship sports show, followed Amar’e Stoudemire’s journey from the NBA to Orthodox Judaism. The retired basketball star spent time with both the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns before playing for Hapoel Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel while he underwent conversion. Still a part owner of the Jerusalem team, Stoudemire now lives in Brooklyn, where his synagogue was featured as he davened shacharis. In the show, Stoudemire is proud of his path. He says, “It’s just been like a quest for searching for emet, searching for truth. I’m for sure a different person than I was before.” Read more here.
