One of our All Stars at JITC’s 2nd Jewish Media Awards, Sharon Mazel aspired to work in television and be a journalist. People cast doubt on her dream because she was religious and ‘there are no frum Jews in television.’ She persisted and eventually landed a job, during which she was asked to work Friday nights. Mazel and the network compromised; she would go in on Sunday evening. But then the next week, she was scheduled for a Friday. At that point, she explained to the network that Shabbat occurs every week. Eventually, she was pregnant and explained to Human Resources her intentions of having a family. This led to her co-authoring acclaimed, bestselling work “What to Expect When You’re Expecting (ed 4&5).”
