Here’s All JITC Hollywood Bureau Has Accomplished Since Our Launch One Year Ago

One year ago today, our organization made history by launching the first and only Jewish Hollywood Bureau to advocate for authentic depictions of Jews directly to the studios. Every other group has had one of these Bureaus for decades or at least many years. In only one year, we have:

  • Met nearly every studio in Hollywood, to explain why Jews belong in these conversations and how Jewish representation needs to change
  • Included in Variety’s Inclusion Impact Report for creating positive change in Hollywood – the only Jew advocating for Jews ever included
  • Attended multiple Hollywood DEI seminars
  • Held the first Jewish Media Awards
  • Hosted the first ever Sundance panel on Jewish representation
  • Worked with Think Tank For Inclusion and Equity, to create the first fact sheet on Jews that will be used by TV writers throughout Hollywood
  • Listed as the Jewish resource for multiple entertainment organizations like WGA and Hollywood Health and Science
  • Brought on entertainment insider, Cindy Kaplan, to consult in our strategy and join our meetings
  • Produced a documentary with Hollywood production company, PhilmCo Media: Hollywood’s Orthodox Jew Problem
  • Got published in UCLA’s prestigious entertainment group Scholars and Storytellers’ newsletter on “The Marginalized Group Inclusion Spaces Forgot to Include”
  • Created positive changes behind the scenes that we are not able to tell you about. (Are you curious?!)
  • Got some great media coverage
  • Began building our advisory board
  • Raised almost half the money to begin an impact study with a prestigious entertainment group to measure how negative depictions of Jews increased Jew hatred in the world

Watch a short highlight reel of our fist JITC Media Awards, including my opening speech:

I read the Hollywood reporter piece on the letter you organized to AMPAS critiquing Jewish exclusion from diversity standards. I am a longtime member of the Academy, a passionate tribal Jew, and one of a number of similarly situated people I know who were not contacted by you and would like to sign the letter.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Bob Bookman
