One Orthodox Jewish Woman Breaking Down Stereotypes

When I first started JewintheCity.com a couple years ago and needed to come up with a mission statement, I thought: “One Orthodox Jewish woman attempting to break down stereotypes about religious Jews and offer a humorous, meaningful look into traditional Judaism” best summed up what I was trying to accomplish. But recently it came to my attention that the word “attempting” is too tentative and non-committal for the task I have at hand.

I had no idea (at the beginning) if I would be able to open up people’s minds regarding religious Jews or have a way to combat the rumors and urban legends that permeate society about us. But now that the two year anniversary of this site is around the corner, with the videos having been viewed over 75,000 times, hundreds of people subscribing to the blog each week, and countless emails and messages from you guys telling me that JITC is making a difference, I decided, gosh darn it, I’m not attempting to break down stereotypes any more, I am actually doing it!

So as you’ll see at the bottom of every page, the tagline now reads” “One Orthodox Jewish woman breaking down stereotypes about Orthodox Jews and offering a humorous meaningful look into traditional Judaism”. JewintheCity.com couldn’t have gotten this far without your support. Thanks for all that you’ve done and all that I hope you’ll conitinue to do in getting this important message out to the world.

  2. Thanks! I saw some of your recent articles. Nice job!

  3. Thank you Allison for a great service. I’m a convert, and I am amazed at the lack of knowledge by fellow Jews on the Orthodox. I use your site to educate as many people as I can, including my husband. Thank you.

  4. I am so excited to have found this site! I teach medical billing and coding classes to Orthodox Jewish Women in Lakewood, NJ and I have been fascinated by the religion for so many years. In my classes, there are always questions from my non-orthodox students of the Orthodox women and they are always gracious with their answers. I will most definitely refer my students with questions here!
